SteelGuard is the product of the Carbonyte ProcessTM, a technology derived from a decade of vigorous polymer science research and team development within the Lockheed Martin Missile and Space Company.  This process utilizes nano-ceramics and ionized minerals which are selectively introduced to create a totally new concept in asphalt maintenance product design.  The Carbonyte ProcessTM converts asphalt into a superior-performing thermoplastic.  Modifying the molecular bonds within the asphalt emulsion and mixture substantially improves the asphalt’s ductility, raises it’s softening point, increases adhesion to mineral surfaces, and renders the finished product insoluble.

And with SteelGuard, it takes less material to produce better results.  One coat of SteelGuard gives you more material than two coats of the typical asphalt sealer, and for less money!

The Dynamics of SteelGuard

For pavement protection systems, the Carbonyte Process™ utilizes reactive nano-ceramics, which are selectively introduced to create a totally new concept in asphalt sealcoat design. In short, the Carbonyte Process™ converts asphalt into a superior-performing thermoplastic.

Carbonyte Process™ systems rapidly push the water to the upper surface of the coating. Once moved, the final evaporation rate is limited only by the factors of air temperature, pavement temperature, sun load, wind and humidity.

The difference in cure rate, between having to rely on the atmosphere to draw the water out of conventional systems, verses simply whisking away water already driven out of a Carbonyte Process™ system is dramatic!

Conventional sealcoats cure from the top down, and even though they can look dry, they still may not be ready for traffic. With the Carbonyte Process™ and "Activated Curing", sealcoats cure from the bottom up - when it looks dry, it is dry!

"Activated Curing" is just one of the advantages of the Carbonyte Process™. The cross-linking which takes place during curing produces an inorganic polymerization, which results in a superior performing thermoplastic film with these additional advantages:

bullet

A tougher cured surface without the use of expensive latex additives

bullet

No tracking

bullet

A high resistance to power steering scuff marks are nearly non-existent

bullet

No loss of seal due to re-emulsification

bullet

Longer surface life for your customers

Customers love it for a number of reasons. They have peace of mind knowing that Carbonyte systems contain no biocides or formaldehyde – it meets the EPA’s definition of "GRAS" – Generally Regarded As Safe. Customers’ properties stay cleaner because Carbonyte systems will not delaminate or re-emulsify. Accelerated curing minimizes the chance of someone stepping in and tracking wet sealer. It does not track even under the hottest conditions. Customers also love the smell – there isn’t any! No toxic components, no biocides and no smell!

Most importantly, it saves them money. Major grocers have said that dividing their lot in half can cost them $10,000 a day in lost business. Splitting a lot over more days creates even more inconvenience and lost revenue. "Activated Curing" means faster daytime operations and opens the door to selected night-time applications.

Due to the built in cross-linking and waterproof properties, Carbonyte systems are substantially more durable than conventional systems. In fact, Carbonyte systems not only pass the ISSA Wet Track Abrasion Test with 1-Hour soak; they also pass the advanced 6-Day soak used for Microsurfacing. This is toughness built in, not added on.

The benefits to contractors are huge. Carbonyte systems with "Activated Curing" allows sealcoat to be placed at night and during cooler weather which also extends the season – contractors can start earlier in the year and seal later in the fall. "Activated Curing" and cross-linking chemistry means more protection if a sudden weather change occurs. This translates into higher annual revenues and less risk of environmental problems.

Carbonyte Process™ sealcoat manufacturers save money on emulsion costs because there is no need for expensive synthetic emulsifiers, no need for any formaldehyde or biocides, no need for any fibers and no need for any liquid polymers. Yet they produce a longer lasting, tougher product at competitive pricing. Storage and shipping problems due to biological growth or fallout and settling are slashed. Current producers have shipped tanker loads from Portland, Oregon to Wisconsin and from Salt Lake City to Austin, Texas with no problems.

Predictable curing, tougher material without the use of costly additives, safe ingredients, storage, shipping stability and competitive pricing make Carbonyte Process™ sealcoats an attractive alternative!

Take the time now to learn all of the advantages the Carbonyte Process™ will have for you!
